January 2021 – Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction Update

Effective January 01st, 2021

The Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction has increased the Earning Exemptions for those receiving Income and Disability Assistance. The tables below show the new earning exemptions based on the type of assistance one is receiving.

The table below shows the earning exemptions for those on Income Assistance (IA) dependent on their family size.

ClassificationMonthly Earnings Exemption
Single Person: Aged 19-64$500
Single Person: with Confirmed Pregnancy$500
Single Person: Over 65$500
Couple: Under Age 65$500
Couple: One Under 65 One Over 65$500
Couple: with 1 Child$750
Single parent: with 1 Child$750

The table below shows the earning exemptions for those on Persons with Persistent Multiple Barriers (PPMB) dependent on their family size.

ClassificationMonthly Earnings Exemption
Single Person: Aged 19-64$900
Couple: One with PPMB$900
Couple: Both with PPMB$900
Couple: Both with PPMB with 1 Child$900
Single parent: with 1 Child$900

The table below shows the earning exemptions for those on Persons with Disabilities (PWD) dependent on their family size.

Single Person: Aged 18-64$15,000
Couple: One with PWD$18,000
Couple: One with PWD with 1 Child $18,000
Couple: Both with PWD$30,000
Couple: Both with PWD with 1 Child$30,000
