Persons with Disabilities (PWD) is provided by the BC Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction (MSDPR). It is a support program aimed towards low income individuals who require assistance or assistive devices. Furthermore, their medical condition must be expected to persist for 2 or more years.
PWD has a similar structure to income assistance with its monthly payments, asset limits and earnings exemptions. However, the PWD application is much more complex than income assistance application. More information about applying can be found on the PWD applications page.
Not all recipients on PWD are exempt from employment obligations. The Ministry will assist them in developing their independence to their best abilities with an employment or voluntary participation plan.
