A trust is a legal relationship where someone (the trustee) holds the legal interest in (legally owns) money or other assets for someone else’s benefit (that person is called the "beneficiary").

Trusts allow you to prepare for any future expenses you may have to pay, as well as allow you to keep your PWD designation. Generally, income you receive is deducted from your income assistance cheque. Income that is not deducted is called exempt income. Most, if not all, payments from trust are considered exempt income for PWDs. The Ministry does not limit the amount of money that can be paid out of a trust.
